Cholesterol Types and How They Affect You
60HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, and your Health
Cholesterol is a natural waxy, fatty material that exists in your cells and bloodstream and helps to keeps your body working properly. The two main sources of cholesterol are the liver and your diet. The liver and other cells produce most of your serum (bloodstream) of your blood cholesterol; the rest comes from what you eat. The cholesterol in your blood occurs in two types: High-density lipoproteins (HDL) is the “good cholesterol” and Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) the “bad cholesterol. HDL is produced by the body and carries cholesterol away from the cells and back to the liver where it is broken down or expelled, reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. LDL carries cholesterol from the liver to the cells. It is known as the bad type because it can clog the arteries with plaque, raising your risk of heart disease and high blood pressure. Plaque can build up on artery walls, narrowing them and causing arterial blockage. These blockages are a major risk factor for heart disease, heart attack and stroke.
TRIGLYCERIDES
Triglycerides and cholesterol form fatty deposits in the bloodstream and vessels. Triglycerides are a type of fat composed of three fatty acids and glycerol. It comes mainly from vegetable oils and animal fats, though your body also produces some naturally. Leftover calories from dietary fat are turned into triglycerides and stored for later use. High blood levels of triglycerides are a strong indicator of an increased risk of heart disease.
CONTROLLING LDL AND TRIGLYCERIDES
If you or your doctor are concerned about your risk of heart disease, you should follow a diet low in saturated fat. Eating high quantities of fruit, vegetables and whole grains aand lean meat cuts will help keep down your LDL levels. Increasing your physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight will keep serum levels of triglycerides at a stable and lower level. Diet, exercise and a healthy lifestyle may not be enough if a predisposition towards high cholesterol runs in your family. While one alternative is prescription statins to help control your cholesterol levels, you may want to consider natural supplements such as Vasacor before taking medications for your cholesterol.
If you have stubbornly high cholesterol, or a family history of heart disease, statins may be needed, but should only be used as a last resort when simpler methods of cholesterol reduction have been tried.

As we all know that cholesterol is considered as one of the high risk for the health of every individual. So, from this article, hope that this would make a difference. This is very true and informative. Lets be all aware and be healthy.
I have very high cholesterol and have been avoiding meds for some time. I finally agreed to try statins but they made me sick, physically and psychologically.
I'm increasing my fruit/vegetable intake and will be walking every day as suggested and hopefully will see enough of a difference to avoid more meds.
Nice research. It concerns on the people that are obese. Regular exercise and right diet is the key on it.

The one thing I could say is that maybe including more information about foods to avoid (maybe mention specific foods) and talking a little about low cholesterol could add to the article.
